RESCUES UPDATE
On Sunday June 2 our team in Laos set off in our battered rescue truck for a 1,000 km trip to the other end of the country to rescue a four year old sun bear (below left). We also hope to rescue a tiny sun bear cub which is reported to be in the same area. Watch our Facebook page for updates.
Some very sad news - two moon bear cubs rescued in early May (below right) have disappeared from our Luang Prabang Wildlife Sanctuary. The police and Department of Forest Inspection are investigating the matter. This is the first time in more than 20 years that something like this has happened. We're devastated by the loss, desperately concerned for the welfare of the cubs and doing everything possible to try to locate them.
BE A BEAR CARER!
When we rescue a bear, it's just the beginning in a long journey of rehabilitation. We provide rescued bears with healthy diets, vet care, enrichment to stimulate their complex minds, hammocks, climbing towers, caves, pools and large forest enclosures. With over 500 bears in our care and care lasting up to 40 years, we urgently need to recruit Bear Carers to ensure that we are able to provide this ongoing care. June is one of the most important months of the year for us. Why? Because it's the end of financial year in Australia. Any donation, bear sponsorship or Bear Carer contribution made before June 30 can be claimed as a tax deduction (Australia). With over 500 bears in our care, increasing bear rescues in Laos and a potential end to bear bile farming in sight, we hope you'll dig deep before June 30.
